MATAPOS ang ‘modest’ campaign sa 2020 Tokyo Olympics, sisikapin ni Carlos Yulo na makabawi sa pagdepensa sa kanyang titulo sa 50th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championship sa Kitakyushu, Japan sa susunod na linggo.

Target ng 21-anyos  na mapanatili ang gold medal sa  floor exercise na kanyang napanalunan sa 2019 edition sa Stuttgart, Germany, kung saan siya rin ang unang Pinoy na nagwagi ng world title.

Nakatakda ang qualifications round sa October 19-20  habang ang  all-around at apparatus finals ay nakatakda sa Oct. 22-24.

Ang kumpetisyon ang pagkakataon ni Yulo para makabawi sa kanyang no-medal finish sa Tokyo Olympics kung saan nabigo siyang makausad sa final round ng  limang apparatus, kabilang ang kanyang pet floor event.

Nakausad siya sa sumunod na round ng vault exercise subalit kinapos sa podium nang tumapos lamang sa fourth na may final score na 14.716.

Gayunman, si Yulo ay galing sa matagumpay na kampanya sa 2021 All-Japan Senior & Masters Gymnastics Championship noong nakaraang buwan sa Yamagata kung saan nanalo siya ng dalawang medalya.

Nakopo niya ang gold sa men’s floor exercise sa pagtala ng 15.30, at  bronze sa vault, kung saan nagtala siya ng  15.00. CLYDE MARIANO
