BINABAAN ng International Monetary Fund (IMF) ang growth forecast nito para sa ekonomiya ng Filipinas para sa 2021 dahil sa mabagal na recovery at mas mahigpit na quarantine measures sa first half ng taon.year.

Ayon sa IMF, ang ekonomiya ay maaaring lumago sa 5.4 percent ngayong taon, mas mababa sa naunang pagtaya na 6.9 percent.

“The reasons for this is we see a bit of slowing in the recovery in the first half of 2021 before pick up in the second half of this year,” wika ni IMF Asia and Pacific Division Chief Thomas Helbling.

“The slowing in the recovery in the first half is mostly due to the second wave of the pandemic, which peaked in April, and which necessitated some stricter quarantine measures, and has also weighed on confidence. But now hopefully the second wave should be on the way out,” dagdag pa niya.

Nagpatupad ang gobyerno ng panibagong lockdown noong nakaraang Marso 29 makaraang tumaas ang mga kaso ng  COVID-19.

Nauna na ring ibinaba ng Asian Development Bank (ADB) ang growth forecast nito sa  4.5 percent habang sinabi ng World Bank na ang ekonomiya ng bansa ay posibleng lumago sa hanggang 4.7 percent.

Ang  target ng pamahalaan ngayong taon ay nasa 6 hanggang 7 percent na paglago, mas mababa sa naunang  goal na 6.5 hanggang 7.5 percent.

Inaasahan naman ng multilateral lender na lalago ang gross domestic product (GDP) ng bansa ng 7 percent sa 2022, mas mataas sa nauna nitong pagtaya na 6.5 percent.

“Some of the strong rebound we expected from our previous forecast earlier has just been delayed,” ani Helbling.
