MAGIGING panauhin si Department of Education (DepEd) Secretariat director Joel Erestain bilang resource speaker ng ‘Sports in Schools’ sa twenty-third virtual session ng National Sports Summit 2021 sa Miyerkoles, July 28.
Si Director Erestain ay nagsilbi sa tanggapan ni Senador Dick Gordon sa ilalim ng Blue Ribbon Committee at naging Special Assistant of the President of the Home Guaranty Corporation. Nagsilbi rin siya sa local government bilang barangay kagawad ng Fairview, Quezon City habang ginagampanan ang kanyang tungkulin bilang head executive assistant at spokesperson ng general manager ng DOTC-MRT3. Kalaunan ay itinalaga si Erestain bilang Director IV ng DepEd.
Sa loob ng 73 taon, ang DepEd ay naging haligi sa likod ng tagumpay ng Palarong Pambansa – ang taunang national multisport event para sa student-athletes sa elementary at secondary schools. Layon ng event na isulong ang sports sa mga kabataan sa grass-roots level.
“The Philippine Sports Commission and the DepEd has a strong partnership when it comes to promoting and developing the grassroots sports program in the country. Most of our Elite athletes now are a product of Palarong Pambansa,” wika ni NSS Project Director Marc Edward Velasco.
Tinitiyak ng dalawang ahensiya na magiging accessible ang sports sa kapaligiran at makatulong sa paghubog ng world-class Filipino athletes.
“This is a great opportunity for Deped to converse with our participants – composed of sports coordinators from different LGUs, stakeholders, and educators to give them an in-depth understanding of what DepEd is doing and to help them startup their sports program in their areas,” dagdag ni Velasco na nagsisilbi ring Philippine Sports Institute National Training Director.
