BABABA sa P2.25 trillion ang uutangin ng Pilipinas sa 2022 mula sa P3 trillion na inaasahan ngayong taon.

Ayon kay Finance Secretary Carlos Domiguez III, ang nasabing borrowings ay susuporta sa public health response at economic investments ng bansa.

Sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Appropriations, sinabi ni Dominguez na nananatiling sustainable ang ginagawang pangungutang ng bansa.

Gayunman, idinagdag niya na ang debt-to-GDP ratio ng national government ay tinatayang bahagyang tataas sa 60 percent sa 2022 mula sa nakaprogramang  59 percent ratio noong 2021.

Tiniyak naman ng kalihim sa mga mambabatas na pansamantala lamang ito.

“It did not stem from profligate public spending, but rather resulted from a universal shock that deteriorated the financial positions of almost all countries around the world,” paliwanag niya.

“The principal contributors to the increase in our debt are the weakening of the economy and lower revenue collections due to the lockdowns, both of which are expected to recover quickly as soon as the infections are contained.”

Ang utang ng Pilipinas ay patuloy sa paglobo kung saan pumalo na ito sa halos P11.17 trillion nitong Hunyo.
